Commonly Encountered Problems with Video Recordings
Recorded crime scenes, surveillance & industrial security videos obtained by the investigator are often characterized by some  of the following conditions: 

Condition

Consequence

low light levels

dark scenes

perpetrator blurred running

blurry images due 
to motion blur

synchronization problems

wavy video lines
distorted images

time lapse field recorded video

incoherent images – two different scenes at two different times interlaced into one image, a frame

incorrect azimuth on playback

garbled image- ghost type double images like blur though incorrect azimuth selection, normally a GYYR VCR long play recorded tape

tape copy-not an original and/or an edited tape

loss of information content, edited version may not be courtroom acceptable evidence

16 or more cameras recorded

random sequence of images difficult to comprehend the incident without demultiplexer

motion to fast or two slow

images flash by too fast or become too jerky
