ClearView Workstation Description

ClearView is a user-friendly, non-computerized,  workstation designed to improve the clarity of video  recorded images.  VCR tapes are readily enhanced to improve perpetrator identification and other characteristics of interest.  ClearView can be interfaced to today’s TV output from desktop and laptop computers.

Commonly Encountered Problems with Video Recorded Images.

Recorded crime scenes, surveillance, and industrial security videos obtained by the investigator are often characterized by one or more of the following conditions:

Condition

Consequence

low light level

dark scenes

perpetrator blurred - running

blurry images due to motion blur

synchronization problems

wavy video lines – distorted images

time lapse field recorded video

incoherent images – two different scenes at two different times interlaced into one image, a frame

incorrect azimuth on playback

garbled image- ghost type double images like blur though incorrect azimuth selection, normally a GYYR VCR long play recorded tape

tape copy-not an original
 edited tape

loss of information content, edited version may not be courtroom acceptable evidence

16 or more cameras recorded

random sequence of images difficult to comprehend the incident without demultiplexer

motion to fast or two slow

images flash by too fast or become too jerky

ClearView’s Advantage

ClearView overcomes the above conditions.  The investigator/ technical services officer can advance through the VCR tape image by image, either via jog shuttle or field advance.  The brightness and contrast of poor quality VCR images can be adjusted to enhance the likelihood of positive perpetrator identification.  Intensity adjustment can be accomplished in either color or gray shades (the luminance signal only).  Images can be freeze framed, three fields at a time for the reduction of motion blur and long time viewing without tape degradation (set the VCR to stop, the image remains on the monitor).

ClearView can be used to view time lapse or continuous recorded tapes field by field, partial field by partial field, with precision control.  Full frame time base corrections are automatically accomplished during playback eliminating or reducing wavy distortion. ClearView displays each and every recorded image or partial image regardless the quality of synchronization signals.

ClearView provides dye sublimation hardcopy at a cost effective level, color or black and white, acceptable to both the investigator and the courtroom.  ClearView allows the preparation of high resolution copy tapes with all the above features; intensity adjustments in both color and gray scale, time base correction, and tracking optimization.  The copies are better than the originals, enhanced not edited.

ClearView allows use of the SVHS and VHS pathways with or without chrominance termination.  The SVHS pathway provides a wider band path for the video signal, even though the signal is VHS luminance (black and white signal).  This feature provides resolution enhancement, sharper and clearer images.

ClearView can be interfaced to the video output of desk top or laptop computers via the VHS or SVHS connectors.  ClearView’s Direct Connect Patch Panel provides for stereo audio, VHS, and SVHS Input/Output with sufficient room for additional video equipment, i.e. camcorders, in house existing VCR equipment, etc.  ClearView’s Direct Connect Patch Panel eliminates the cross talk between channels with electronic video/audio switchers.

ClearView’s high resolution monitor can display VHS, SVHS, SECAM, and PAL images.  The monitor has over scan and under scan allowing detection of copy tapes by the bright white tadpole spot bottom line characteristic.  This copy tape or original tape characteristic can also be printed.  The printer’s output can be viewed on the monitor for final adjustment prior to printing by push button channel selection.

ClearView can demultiplex three of the most popular digital recording formats; Sensormatics Robot, Dedicated Micro Sprite, and Pelco.

ClearView can prepare copies of  slow play or long play time lapse video tapes as Quasi real-time in normal two (2) hour mode.  This feature is a significant aid to viewing these difficult videos.  The jury has the right to view the original evidence, even if it is difficult to comprehend.  Quasi real-time copies, enhanced, are more comfortable for  jury understanding.

ClearView is configured using double wide 19” EIA racks on a rolling cart with a slide out writing table drawer.  The entire workstation can be easily moved and provides an excellent interview room/courtroom display system.
